Welcome to USAID/Southern Africa’s website.

Our website has recently been revised to include new programs, updated information and key events to reflect our rich set of development activities within Southern Africa.  We hope you enjoy it and welcome your feedback on ways to make it more useful.

USAID/Southern Africa is dedicated to improving the livelihood, health, and freedoms of people in South Africa and across the region. USAID’s programs in South Africa focus on assisting the country in completing the transformation from its apartheid past into an economically vibrant, fully inclusive democracy.  To assist the South African Government in building capacity to address critical issues, USAID/Southern Africa works in the areas of health, economic growth, democracy, and trilateral assistance.

There are many development issues that are not restricted by national borders and which are more appropriately addressed through a regional response.  Through its regional programs, USAID/Southern Africa works in the areas of health, economic growth, agriculture, democracy, environment, and humanitarian assistance.  We also provide critical support services to USAID missions in other countries in the region.

Improving and maintaining the quality of life for Southern Africans can best be done through close partnerships.  USAID works closely with the people, governments, and institutions of Southern Africa to achieve this common purpose.

This website provides a brief description of our activities and services, in addition to regular updates of our program’s successes and events.  Please take time to learn about both our activities in South Africa and throughout the Southern Africa region. I welcome your interest in our programs and encourage you to contact us with any questions or comments.
